2016 - Present

Excel team focuses on Excel Realty Holdings and relocates the corporate headquarters to Salt Lake City, Utah continuing to acquire commercial retail properties throughout the United States with a preference for investment grade single tenant triple net lease properties.

2009 - 2015 (Excel Trust)

Excel Trust (NYSE:EXL) was formed in 2009, successfully raised $210 million in an IPO, surpassed $1 billion by 2013, obtained investment grade rating by Moody’s, Standard & Poors, and Fitch in 2014 and was sold to Blackstone for approximately $2 billion in July of 2015.

2004 (Price Legacy Sale)

Price Legacy was acquired by a partnership between DRA Advisors and Kimco Realty for approximately $1.2 billion.

2003 (Excel Realty Holdings - Present)

Excel Realty Holdings was formed as a private company to acquire and develop commercial real estate investment properties.

2001 (Price Legacy)

Excel Legacy merged with Price Enterprises to form Price Legacy (NASDAQ:PRLE) in a transaction valued at approximately $800 million.

1999 (Excel Legacy Corporation / Price Enterprises)

Excel team left New Plan Excel Realty Trust to expand Excel Legacy (AMEX:XLG), a spin off from Excel Realty Trust. Excel Legacy acquired majority interest in Price Enterprises (NASDAQ:PREN).

1998 (New Plan Excel Realty Trust)

New Plan Excel Realty Trust (NYSE:NPXL) was created through a merger between Excel Realty Trust and New Plan Realty Trust in a transaction valued at $2.9 billion which became the largest open-air shopping center REIT in the US at that time.

1995 & 1997 (#1 Retail REIT in U.S.)

Excel Realty Trust was the top performing retail REIT in the US measured by total shareholder return in 1995 and 1997.

1993 (Excel Realty Trust on NYSE)

Excel Realty Trust (NYSE:XEL) successfully raised $118.5 million in an IPO and increased portfolio assets over $1.2 billion through 1998.

1989 (Excel Realty Trust Established)

Excel consolidated several properties to create Excel Realty Trust, a commercial retail Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).

1977 (Excel is Born)

Gary Sabin established his first real estate company under the Excel brand focused on the acquisition and management of commercial real estate investment properties.

Gary Sabin is also Chairman of Sabin Holdings, a sister company to Excel Realty Holdings, an international real estate firm focused on building a diversified investment portfolio in major Asia Pacific markets. Learn More
