The Sabin Children's Foundation
The Sabin Children's Foundation ("SCF") Is a non-profit 501(C)(3) public benefit charity dedicated to relieving the distress of underprivileged children around the world. Founded in 1994, SCF sponsors worthy charitable projects with the hope of dramatically improving the lives of these children.
One of the most unique features of SCF is that it has almost no overhead expense, making it the leanest and most efficient charitable organization of its kind. All who work in SCF are volunteers committed to making a difference in the lives of children. There are no executive salaries. There are no administrative expenses other than minimal incidental costs incurred in the direct delivery of programs and benefits.
SCF sponsored programs utilize the skills of local volunteer doctors who are committed to helping their own people. With these teams of volunteer doctors and donated medical supplies the average cash cost for life changing surgeries becomes minimal. For example:
- Average cost for cleft lip or cleft palate: $34
- Average cost for sight restoring cataract surgery: $11
- Average cost for correcting club feet: $100
- Cost to screen and spare a child from leprosy: $115
We consider this investment in the human family our best
investment of all.
Philippines
Manila – Since 1995, SCF has funded and sponsored various programs which have corrected thousands of cleft palates, cleft lips, clubfeet and eye disorders in children. SCF provided funds for a pre/post operative facility in Manila where patients can prepare for and recover from these surgeries. In 2006 SCF constructed a separate "state of the art" cranial facial surgical center in Manila which will increase the number of critical surgeries which can be performed.
India
New Delhi – In support of a Street and Working Children's Project, SCF purchased land and constructed a large shelter home and a vocational training center. These projects provide food, medical care, and basic education to hundreds of homeless and orphaned children living in the rag-picker slums of Delhi.

AfricaLusaka, Zambia – With assistance from SCF , the Fountain of Hope Lusaka Center Clinic was built. This medical clinic and drop-in facility feeds and treats approximately 1,000 orphaned HIV/AIDS children on a daily basis. This project significantly improves the quality of life and reduces the suffering of children in this area. In Zambia, orphans make up approximately 17% of the population. The average life expectancy has dropped to the mid-thirties because of the HIV/ AIDS pandemic.
BoliviaRural Bolivia – SCF funded a project providing water and sanitation services to 30 communities in the Alta Plano region of Bolivia with more than 17,000 residents.
